Auto DevOps 101: How we're making CI/CD easier
Blog post from GitLab
GitLab's Auto DevOps feature simplifies the continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) process by incorporating best practices and automation into the software development lifecycle. As demonstrated by Mark Pundsack during the Contribute 2019 meeting, Auto DevOps provides a pre-defined CI/CD pipeline that encourages comprehensive practices, including security checks and code quality analysis, from the initial deployment stages. This approach aligns with the "shift left" philosophy, aiming to integrate security measures early in the development process. Evolving from GitLab's earlier Auto Deploy feature, Auto DevOps now automates 12 development steps, with options for customization through Composable Auto DevOps. The process starts with language detection and progresses through stages like code testing, security evaluations, and deployment, all without requiring manual configuration. The feature also includes automatic performance monitoring, allowing users to track application metrics effortlessly.
