Blog post from GitHub
GitHub has open-sourced its platform policies to encourage developer engagement and transparency, allowing users to review and suggest changes through the site-policy repository. Recent updates, influenced by user feedback, include more transparent documentation of policy changes, clarifications on the use of automated scanning and tracking technologies, and simplification of legal language. By adopting an open-source approach, GitHub aims to create better policies and foster greater understanding and collaboration within the developer community. This initiative also serves to introduce policymakers and the public to the open-source process. Users are encouraged to participate by watching the repository and providing input on proposed changes, particularly for significant updates, which are announced 30 days in advance to allow for community feedback.
