Improved Subversion Client Support
Blog post from GitHub
GitHub has announced an enhanced SVN support that allows Subversion clients to access GitHub repositories using the same URL as Git clients, replacing the previous svn.github.com URL, which will soon be decommissioned. This new support offers a standard subversion layout where the master branch is mapped to 'trunk' and other branches to 'branches', facilitating partial checkouts where users can selectively update parts of the repository. Users can edit files, create branches, and commit changes, and upcoming improvements aim to further integrate Subversion and GitHub by enhancing features such as branch merging, rebasing, and better user name mapping between the two platforms. This update, authored by Nick Hengeveld, reflects GitHub's ongoing commitment to improving collaboration between mixed teams using both SVN and Git.
