GitHub emphasizes a human-centered approach to moderation, advocating for transparency and proportionality in policy enforcement while recognizing the importance of cultural competence and the challenges platforms face in achieving it. The revised principles also address the need for companies to notify users of content removal or account suspension, with exceptions for cases like spam or phishing, and highlight the potential risks to users' rights from state involvement. GitHub supports transparency in actions influenced by state requests and continues to engage with the open-source community to evolve content moderation policies in line with civil society and human rights frameworks.
