GitHub Externships: enabling India’s next generation of developers

GitHub is enhancing its Externships program in India by launching a winter cohort aimed at equipping students with real-world experience and skills necessary for the evolving digital economy. The initiative addresses the high demand for internships among Indian students, as highlighted by the India Skills report 2021, and aims to prepare over one million new engineering graduates annually with hands-on experience. The program, part of GitHub's Campus Program, offers mentorship and project opportunities in areas like cloud technologies, software development methodologies, and collaboration. The summer cohort saw 62 students from 175 institutions selected to work with mentors from 18 organizations on diverse projects, leading to some students receiving pre-placement offers. The winter cohort introduces a new DevSecOps track, alongside open source projects, supported by various partners, with applications open until December 14, 2021.
