This past January, Valtech collaborated with several organizations to host a virtual hackathon aimed at exposing underserved communities to upcoming technologies and social impact challenges. The event focused on community outreach through training, mentorship, and hackathon-style social impact challenges, attracting 75 attendees from diverse backgrounds. The hackathon offered participants the opportunity to develop solutions to real-world problems faced by underserved communities, such as food insecurity, navigating social services, and bridging the digital divide among older adults. Solutions developed during the event included a cyber senior center, a food distribution app, and a platform to help community members develop their own personal brands. The event successfully fostered creative solutions to social challenges, exposing attendees to new technologies and providing them with valuable skills, networking opportunities, and a chance to build their professional portfolios for the greater good of the community.
