The GitOps Working Group, initiated by major tech companies like Amazon, Codefresh, GitHub, Microsoft, and Weaveworks, has transitioned into Open GitOps, a standalone project under the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF). This group was formed to advance GitOps, a methodology gaining traction for managing infrastructure and cloud-native applications, by providing a framework of principles and competencies that are vendor-neutral to facilitate interoperability and innovation. The primary aim is to create a GitOps Manifesto that clearly articulates GitOps principles, fostering a shared understanding and encouraging best practices to enhance productivity, stability, reliability, and security in cloud environments. The initiative seeks to promote collaboration within the GitOps ecosystem and invites companies and individuals to join and contribute to this evolving community. The objective is to develop a common standard that could lead to certification programs, helping more entities adopt GitOps effectively.
