At Checkr, a company that employs people with records, they recognize the challenges Americans face when reentering society after prison. They partnered with organizations to create an empathy-building exercise called the Reentry Simulation, which immerses participants in the struggles of individuals transitioning back into society. This simulation has become integral to their employee experience and has also been taken to some of their biggest customers to highlight the issue of millions of qualified candidates being overlooked for jobs. To continue this effort during the pandemic, Checkr launched an online version called the Reentry Challenge, a 20-minute role-play where participants experience the challenges faced by individuals reentering society after incarceration. The goal is to encourage organizations to strengthen their diversity and inclusion efforts to create more inclusive communities and tap into a untapped talent pool.
