The New York Public Library's Labs team hosted a hackathon that brought together mapper-historian-developer types, giving participants hands-on experience with the library's APIs and datasets. CartoDB was used to build and explore maps, which served as both publishing tools and exploratory tools to uncover interesting stories within the data. The challenge of finding a story in a dataset proved to be a fun yet challenging process, and instead of focusing on a single map, the team decided to share their journey in discovering the stories hidden within the data.
