The Import API is a straightforward tool that allows users to upload files to CartoDB without having to use the browser, by posting a file over HTTPS and including an API key as a parameter. The API can be used through a shell script or application, and it supports both local files and publicly available files hosted elsewhere. Users have already found creative ways to integrate the API into their workflows, such as Galen Evans' integration with Mac Finder.
