The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a significant challenge in vaccine distribution, with strict storage requirements and complex logistics. Location Intelligence can play a crucial role in optimizing cold transportation networks, particularly for small and rural communities. A recent collaboration between SEUR-Spain and a spatial data science firm assessed their current network and identified opportunities for optimization. The approach involved clustering analysis to identify high-density areas, support selection and discretization using hierarchical grids or administrative regions, analyzing the impact of opening or closing distribution centers, and introducing optimization models to calculate optimal delivery areas based on distance and DC utilization. These techniques can help speed up vaccine distribution and ensure rapid vaccination of the population.
