The European Space Agency hosted the Big Data from Space conference, where CartoDB presented projects utilizing its software for environmental data visualization. CartoDB is being used by the World Resources Institute to develop Global Forest Watch 2.0, a platform employing the FORMA algorithm to detect early deforestation warnings. The company's VisualRaster technology uses vector tiles and data cubes to handle large amounts of data on maps, enabling dynamic visualizations that reveal hidden stories, such as the construction of the Bakun dam in Malaysia. CartoDB believes Big Data visualization requires new technologies capable of handling large datasets and uncovering trends, rather than relying on traditional tools for analysis.
