We asked electsmartUS founders, Milind Patel and Tom Coscia, a few questions about building an app that provides relevant information about upcoming elections and pressing political issues. They built their app on Bubble to use back-end features without traditional programming methods. The app aims to combat fake news and inaccurate information threatening democratic systems by providing citizens with unbiased and actionable information. Users can select a state and US congress district, receive information on upcoming elections, candidates, COVID-19 policy changes, and more, and learn about political candidates, important issues, running for office, and other tools and resources. The founders initially developed the idea over 2 years ago but struggled with development due to lack of traditional background in development. They discovered no-code tools like Bubble, which made it easier to create an app. The success of the app includes positive responses from users and encouraging feedback, as well as launching their MVP site live on domain and releasing a free non-login preview. Their next steps include recruiting for beta users, iterating, and applying to accelerator programs such as YC, MassChallenge, and Fast Forward. The long-term goal is to become a global organization providing citizens with ways to get informed and better engage with electoral and political systems.
