Alpaca Launches Next-Gen Order Management System That Makes Order Processing 100x Faster

The newly launched Order Management System (OMS v2) by Alpaca is designed to improve performance, scalability, and consistency in order processing latency, with a focus on meeting the growing demands of direct trading clients and retail type clients via Broker API partners. The new system is two orders of magnitude faster than its predecessor, achieving consistently low latency characteristics even during heavy trading volumes. OMS v2 features a horizontally scalable, in-memory design, eliminating the need for database locks and round-trip queries, resulting in significant performance improvements. The system also includes a write-ahead-log powered by Redpanda, a balancer to distribute incoming requests across multiple nodes, and a robust architecture that supports complex order triggers and processing of 1 million fractional orders in under one minute.
