Developer Trends Update for June 29, 2026
June 29, 2026 by Matt Makai
All developer trends data is now updated through June 28, 2026. The analysis and projections are calculated weekly because that's the shortest amount of time to start to take root, but even then weekly data is extremely volatile and noisy, so looking at month-over-month and several months at a time makes it much easier to see whether a developer trend is sustaining or fading.
A few call outs for this week:
- AI model fine-tuning is up 62% week-over-week and projected up about 16% month-over-month. However, it's down in total mentions across companies from February and March. Still, this one is expected to grow substantially as AI model cost efficiency continues to snowball. Tokenmaxxing is out, token efficiency is in, and fine-tuning against tailored data sets is one of many approaches to get there.
- Harness engineering was up on the week +126% but that was against a very low base the week before. It's much better to look at the monthly data for this trend which has significant sustained momentum
- Voice AI is flat weekly and monthly but it looks like this trend is taking a breather after a lot of growth over the past few months and will continue to become more important from here.
On the trends dashboard you can see the sustained risers and decliners across several months, which helps to pick out the signal for real developer trends versus short term noise.
