Surfing was a catalyst for Brooks Lambert's business Qwikon, which he founded in 2012 after a long surf trip. Two years later, nonprofits began using Qwikon to streamline group notifications and scheduling, attracted by its ease of use. Nonprofits such as UCSC's Volunteer Organization, Ride A Wave, and Global Brigaders use Qwikon to reach specific groups via text without needing to write code. Brooks' own nonprofit, Best Day Foundation, uses Qwikon to communicate with volunteers about event cancellations due to bad weather or surf conditions. By lowering the barrier to SMS communication for nonprofits, Brooks hopes to help them change lives in their community.
