SingleStore is a state-of-the-art distributed scale-out transaction processing and query execution engine that can handle large-scale analytical queries and ultra-low-latency key-value workloads. However, scaling SingleStore is a delicate manual process, requiring provisioning or moving replicas to manage backups and durability. To address these limitations, SingleStore is introducing "Bottomless," a storage and compute separation solution that stores data files in S3-like blob storage, allowing for more flexibility in clustering, backup, and disaster recovery. With Bottomless, users can scale up and down, add read replicas, and achieve low recovery time objectives, making it easier to manage workloads and reduce the need for manual intervention. Additionally, Bottomless provides a continuous backup feature, making traditional backup methods obsolete, and enables data sharing, merger-as-a-service, and ingest-pipelines-as-a-service capabilities. By separating storage and compute, Bottomless aims to provide even greater operational efficiency, workload isolation, and flexibility in managing data infrastructure, while reducing the need for multiple management layers.
