How we built a comprehensive developer learning platform using Retool

Retool University was developed as a self-service educational platform to help users become proficient in Retool by integrating existing tools rather than building from scratch. Initially launched as a Partner Portal in September 2023, it utilized Workramp for course delivery, Docusaurus for labs, and Credly for digital badges, allowing partners to engage and self-service their education. Following feedback, the initiative expanded into a comprehensive education portal, Retool University, offering advanced courses and a streamlined user experience without requiring direct assistance. By July 2024, the platform featured a multipage application, consistent branding through the Retool Theme Editor, and robust data infrastructure using Retool Storage and Amazon RDS Postgres. Retool University employs backend workflows to manage user events, integrate with Workramp LMS APIs, and facilitate digital badging through Credly, effectively creating an integrated educational ecosystem. The platform's development was driven by feedback from partners and builders, with notable contributions from team members who supported various aspects of its integration and design.
