The database/container issue in cloud-native environments remains a significant challenge, particularly with stateful applications that require persistent storage to maintain data integrity. Despite the availability of Persistent Volumes and Persistent Volume Claims in Kubernetes, many challenges persist, including a lack of integration with existing tools, interoperability issues, and a shortage of qualified experts who can bridge the gap between developers and platform delivery. DBMS vendors need to invest more in porting their infrastructure components to Kubernetes and developing better integration among databases, containers, and cloud-native computing platforms. Progress has been made, but much work remains to be done to overcome these challenges and enable seamless deployment of stateful applications in cloud-native environments.
