Railway, a company providing software infrastructure, has successfully scaled its Slack integration to support thousands of developers, facilitating improved engagement and support. Initially creating Slack channels manually for customer interaction, Railway found this approach unsustainable as the number of users grew. To streamline operations, they developed an automated Slack channel creation process, enhancing customer support with a custom-built Help Station that synchronizes with Slack. They faced challenges such as message processing and maintaining a personal touch in communications, which they addressed by integrating Temporal for workflow management and refining their message handling system. This resulted in a significant increase in engagement and quicker response times compared to traditional email support. Railway has now opened its Slack Connect experience to all Pro Teams, allowing seamless communication and support directly within Slack, thereby fostering better relationships with their developer clients.
