Muting Rules Now Available in New Relic Alerts
Blog post from New Relic
During planned system disruptions, New Relic Alerts offers muting rules to manage and silence notifications, allowing users to maintain observability without being overwhelmed by unnecessary alerts. These rules are designed to target specific subsets of systems affected by maintenance, deployments, or testing by leveraging contextual metadata, ensuring that only relevant notifications are muted while still tracking the recovery of entities post-disruption. Users can create and manage these muting rules through the New Relic Alerts UI or the NerdGraph API explorer, with the flexibility to construct complex rule filters for precise alert management. By overriding the typical alert lifecycle, muting rules ensure that incidents are logged and health indicators are updated without sending notifications unless necessary, thereby reducing alert fatigue. These muting controls are part of a broader initiative to enhance issue detection and incident management, offering automation and flexibility at an enterprise scale.
