Summary

The fourth industrial revolution is transforming the manufacturing industry with the increasing number of connected devices and data generated. To overcome the challenges presented by traditional I4.0 reference architectures such as ISA-95, an Industrial Unified Namespace (IUN) architecture leveraging MongoDB technology can be adopted to create a unified and standardized approach for manufacturing data management. This architecture follows an event-driven topology where different manufacturing applications publish events in real-time to the central MongoDB Atlas database, enabling data interoperability between different layers of the automation pyramid. The use of MongoDB provides flexible data modeling options, including asset-centric, process-centric, and product-centric models, allowing manufacturers to track various aspects of their production processes and equipment. An architecture for IUN can be created by integrating multiple event producers and consumers, such as IoT gateways, SCADA systems, manufacturing execution systems, and enterprise resource planning systems, with Arcstone toolsets for smart manufacturing. The centralized database aggregates and persists events, enriches event streams with data from all sources, and provides a unified view of the state across the factory.
