Retool has released its inaugural State of AI report, modeled after its popular State of Internal Tools report, surveying over 1,500 tech professionals from various industries to understand their use and development of AI technologies. The survey highlights the rapid adoption of vector databases, especially MongoDB Atlas Vector Search, which achieved the highest Net Promoter Score (NPS) and became the second most widely used vector database within five months of its launch. Vector databases have gained popularity due to their role in retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), which combines large language models (LLMs) with real-time, enterprise-specific data to create AI-powered applications that enhance business productivity and innovation. Despite fewer than 20% of respondents currently using vector databases, the trend towards model customization and AI infrastructure suggests growing adoption. MongoDB's approach allows developers to store and search vector embeddings within their operational database, reducing complexity and operational overhead, and improving application performance. The Retool report also explores AI adoption levels, investment priorities, and challenges like model accuracy and security. As AI and data-intensive applications rise, MongoDB is well-positioned to capitalize on this innovation wave, with Dev Ittycheria, MongoDB's CEO, announcing his retirement and the appointment of Chirantan “CJ” Desai as his successor to lead MongoDB into its next growth phase.
