Unicef and Mapbox have collaborated to release findings from the Giga initiative, which aims to connect every school globally to the internet, highlighting the economic benefits of school connectivity. By employing the Mapbox Isochrone API, the analysis assesses how many people can access educational facilities within specified travel times, revealing that connected schools not only enhance educational experiences but also spur economic growth as community internet hubs. The study, particularly in Kazakhstan, categorized schools into zones of high, medium, and low connectivity, revealing significant portions of the population lacking adequate access. To facilitate similar analyses, detailed instructions and scripts for using the Isochrone API and conducting accessibility analyses with Python are provided, allowing users to incorporate custom data and evaluate how better connectivity can be prioritized. This methodology emphasizes the importance of accurate accessibility representation, addressing limitations of traditional methods by considering factors such as road quality, availability, and topography, and offers tools such as Accessmod and the Mapbox Isochrone API for comprehensive spatial analysis.
