Node.js 15: What’s new and how the developer experience has improved
Blog post from LogRocket
The latest Node.js 15 release introduces several significant updates and changes, including the incorporation of NPM 7, which features the much-anticipated workspaces for managing multiple packages and enhanced handling of peer dependencies. The V8 engine is updated from version 8.4 to 8.6, bringing new JavaScript language features like logical assignment operators and the Promise.any() function, aimed at improving code efficiency and readability. Experimental support for the QUIC protocol (HTTP/3) highlights Node.js's commitment to staying current with evolving web standards, while the handling of unhandled rejected promises has shifted from warnings to errors, potentially affecting many applications. Additionally, Node.js 15 introduces an experimental diagnostics channel module for implementing a publish-subscribe pattern and includes several other updates like the removal of deprecated commands and functions. With Node.js 15 not being a long-term support release, developers are advised to consider maintaining their production applications on Node.js 14 until Node.js 16 becomes available.
