This method enhances transparency and security, as it allows clients to decide on the execution of functions. An example of function calling is demonstrated through building an AI scheduling assistant, which leverages the OpenAI API to process natural language inputs, check calendar availability, and book meetings. The project illustrates how function calling can effectively integrate LLMs with existing applications, offering a viable alternative to more complex protocols like MCP.
