Reading a product like a book involves actively engaging with its design, structure, and functionality to gain a deeper understanding of how it was built. This skill can be developed through the application of four types of reading: elementary, inspectional, analytical, and syntopical. By dissecting products, maintaining a commonplace book, looking for inspiration everywhere, allowing ideas time to ferment, knowing when to move on, and learning from heroes' successes, one can become more literate, aware, and conscious of how to design great products that connect with their audience.
