We've started a revolution in customer communication with machine learning and artificial intelligence. At Intercom, we've successfully applied these technologies to build Custom Bots and Resolution Bot, which help businesses deliver better support experiences and scale their operations. To harness this technology, it's essential to follow the "cupcake approach," starting with the smallest functioning version and iterating fast from there. This involves building a prototype that makes suggestions, handling error handling, and balancing investment across various aspects of the product. We also need to find the path that cheaply reduces risks in a balanced fashion. Our experience with Resolution Bot has taught us that it's crucial to test early prototypes with diverse users, resist the temptation to wait for unrealistically high accuracy thresholds, and start prototyping as soon as possible with minimal machine learning. By doing so, we can accelerate complex machine-learning products and bring breakthroughs to customers.
