We spoke with SFUSO founder, Luca Agea, about building an app that advises users to choose the best wine at the restaurant and home. Luca is a UX/UI designer who used to work at many startups in Boston for five years. As he searched for the best platform solution that can be built quickly without compromising flexibility, he discovered Bubble, a flexible and cost-effective platform that gives "the possibility to really build almost anything." SFUSO aims to resolve frustration when customers are presented with lengthy wine lists at restaurants, often ordering the same wines repeatedly. The app uses a virtual sommelier to guide users through food and wine pairing, analyzing their habits to improve future recommendations. Luca built the app on Bubble due to its cost-effectiveness, flexibility, and speed, allowing them to launch in 1/3 of the usual time and at 1/5 of the usual cost. SFUSO has gained traction despite launching during the COVID-19 pandemic, offering restaurants a digital menu solution that can help minimize customer-staff interaction. The app plans to expand its services with home delivery and provide free access to restaurants during their post-pandemic reopening.
