INP. Get ready for the new Core Web Vital

Google has announced that Interaction to Next Paint (INP) will become a Core Web Vital in 2024, joining First Input Delay (FID) and Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS). INP measures the time it takes for a user's interaction with a webpage to be displayed on their screen. It is considered a more comprehensive measure of interactivity than FID, which only measures the input delay after a user's first interaction with a page. By including INP as a Core Web Vital, Google aims to encourage websites to improve their interactive performance beyond the initial load of the site. To prepare for this change, website owners can enable real user monitoring (RUM) providers like Cloudflare's Web Analytics or Observatory products, which provide insights into how users interact with webpages and where improvements can be made.
