Amanda is a backup system designed to archive multiple computers on a network to a single large-capacity tape drive and has been open source for over 15 years. Despite its longevity, it has maintained a relatively small development community. To foster more active development and inclusivity, the project is moving to GitHub and undergoing a rewrite in Perl. This shift aims to attract developers, particularly those interested in working on a mature and evolving project.
